This morning I joined our dental student Astrid at the school in the North Section of Ixtacapa. As part of her program she has to do a special project for the community where she is working. Seeing the great need at the North school she decided to raise money to buy them new school desks. She set a goal of 30 desks that would cover 5th and 6th grade. She asked businesses, friends and family for donations. She was able to raise enough money for 74 desks!!! So today was a mini-celebration and we brought the desks to the school. The principal said that they will be able to put the desks in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade. The kids were super happy and the teachers as well.
This evening our next team arrived from the University of Scranton. They will be working on construction all week.
