Today was the first day of work in the village. We did a small children's program for 30 kids in the morning and 30 in the afternoon. They made popsicle stick puzzles and played games with the team members. Kelly saw more patients in the clinic with the help of some nursing students - well child check-ups and sick patients. Most of the sponsored kids are healthy! One of the benefits of sponsorship!!
The construction crew started work on two houses in Desierto for Familia Colop Muyuc and Familia Ico Quich. It is a lot of hard work under some very hot sun but the team members have a great attitude and really enjoy the encouragement and help of the village kids.
After a delicious turkey dinner made by Don Julio's (the hotel owner) wife, we went back to the village to set off some fireworks. Some village childreb came and enjoyed the show. Marcelina made us the traditional hot fruit punch that is made for Christmas and New Years. Tonight's batch was made with grapes, apples, pineapple, hibiscus flower and coconut. The team thought it was delicious!
