Andrea is seven years old and goes to first grade in the north section of the village. She has two older sisters and one younger sister. Andrea lives with her sisters and her parents with her father’s parents. The house has one room and a kitchen. The walls and floors are concrete and it has a tin roof. Her father works as a day laborer and her mother is a housewife. Andrea and her family only eat two meals a day of tortillas with beans, boiled herbs or pasta because her father’s salary isn’t enough to support the family of six. Her father also drinks and sometimes hits her mother.
