After a profound and educational week here in Haiti, we said goodbye to the team from Gordon and our other volunteers early on Friday morning, but not, of course, without a farewell party and much dancing the night before. The group left on an exciting day for Haiti, with the former president Aristide returning from his 7-year exile in South Africa. Only time will tell how his presence here will affect the results of the upcoming election.
Dee left us as well this morning, returning home after her week-long, spring break stay with us here to finish out the semester at UMass Dartmouth. With such a large group here for the past week, the grounds at the clinic here in Blanchard feel truly empty. It does provide a good opportunity, though, for us interns to catch up on work that often gets set aside when we’re joined by larger groups, not to mention a bit of rest and relaxation!
All is quiet this evening in Blanchard, and we’re hoping for a smooth and problem-free election day tomorrow!
