Emelyn is eight months old and was born with microcephaly. Her mother became sick with the Zika virus during pregnancy which affected Emelyn’s development. Emelyn has two older brothers and two older sisters. She and her siblings live with their mother in a one room shack made out of cement blocks and wooden boards. Their house has electricity but no running water. Her father works as a day laborer but unfortunately spends most of the money he earns on alcohol. Emelyn’s father no longer lives with them ever since she was born and he blamed her mother for Emelyn’s condition. She suffers from seizures and needs to take an expensive medication to help control them.
