used to support the medical clinics.

I am sitting here amazed at the people who want to give up Christmas vacation to go to Haiti to work. A pre-med student, a teacher, and two college graduates. It has been a great year to meet wonderful people.

Today marks three important birthdays; my son, a graduate student in the US, one of my granddaughters in Guatemala, and Brooke, the medical coordinator in Haiti.

Jaime, an intern in Haiti last year, returns next week. She will help start an organic garden for the teams and feeding program. She will also help at the clinic with the cholera.

Today was the official finishing of our move. One of our daughters, her husband and grandson became the new owners of our old house. We have a new smaller version of our old house.
I am happy to be downsized. I am so happy our house continues on the family.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

On my way home for our 36 wedding anniversary on Weds. Left the clinic feeling happy that we finished the new cholera treatment tent, saw wekensen Stand alone today. New little boy entered the feeding program today. I am worried about him. Brooke and company are doing a good job. Returning Dec 2 for Christmas celebration for children in program. It will be a 1.5 day event. Now my favorite thing, sleeping at laguardia airport. Good night all.

The last team had an electrician who put in more outlets in the new bunkhouse. I have the new test fan and it is great. No bugs and nice and cool. Good meetings all day with the directors.

We are safe here at the clinic. Today was a holiday. So we caught up on repairs. At 3 AM Benite and Victoria will leave for Jeremie a city in the south , to visit a prenatal program. Hopefully it will give us ideas for ours.

News is not good here. Cholera is spreading. About 3-5 people a day
Are coming to the clinic. Brooke has set up a tarp cholera place so the clinic doesn’t get contaminated. She has done a good job . Rioting in the north over the apparent bringing cholera into Haiti by the Napal UN troops. Tent cities with no food. Good news no Mosquitos in my bug net. Tomorrow we work on the UN grant.

Had the medika mamba training at the clinic today. We will get the food soon to start the program.

The life straws made it out of customs in Haiti. They will start to distribute them today. Each straw provides 700 liters of clean water.

Tonight I went to a meeting at St Joseph’s College in Maine. They will do their annual trip again, but this year it will be to both countries. This is always an amazing group of students.

Today a new team arrived in Haiti while
The team in Guatemala finished their work . Team leaders in Guatemala when for a special dinner for helping with the childrens program , all 25 of them.
In Haiti the first case of cholera came into the clinic . All of Haiti lives in fear of this. The staff has training sessions with Brooke, Dr Sem and Benite.

Yesterday I traveled home. I left an amazing team in Guatemala. Before I left we revised Francesca’s house plan. We will build her a wooden house because she doesn’t want to leave to live with someone else. We can build the wood house around her.
Found out that all was well at the clinic in Haiti.
Today we will begin the final two days of our move from Ipswich to Rowley.

Pray for Haiti. The team to arrive tomorrow had their flight canceled. We are waiting for news. The storm is suppose to hit tonight.

Great first day for the team. Leaders group got ready for the childrens program. All the kids have matured in their leadership so much. The clinic was pack. The people for the eye exams were lined up and had been waiting for the return of Ellen for 2 years. The construction went well. But the highlight of the day was the picking of who would get the next emergency house. We thought we knew but today, Francesca, an over 70 year old woman, who is blind came to talk to me. She lives in a wooden house with a dirt floor. No running water or electricity. She was crying because her kitchen fell down . When she uses the outhouse at the neighbors, she often falls down, the same as when she goes to get water at the river. WE asked if she would mind a little house with a bathroom inside and a small kitchen and running water. At first she didn’t understand. When she understood, she dropped her cane fell on the floor on her knees and started to pray and cry and laugh all at the same time. Her house building will start tomorrow. Lynn and I cried too. It was a happy moment for all the staff.

The team has arrived safely. We are ready to start work tomorrow. They will run a children’s program, run a medical and eye clinic, and finish a house.

Today, I went to Matze on the chicken bus with 8 of the kids in the leaders group. It was a long but fun day.

Great news today on the clinic in Guatemala. A meeting with all the principal people  involved happened today. Norm came back overjoyed. The architect ( from Matze Rotary Club) will have the final drawings finished for tomorrow. He will also be able to get blocks and other construction materials for a discounted price. Hurrah!! Foundation will begin this week.

Yesterday we went to the clinic land to measure and match with the sketch of the new clinic /community center. I think that plan is a good one. I am happy to have Norm so dedicated to this project. The team that is coming on Weds will finish the house of Freddy Cruz and start phase one of the clinic.
