Learned more about Haitian politics… Trying to charge an NGO $800,000 to let 28 cars through customs. All meds stuck in containers. We keep going and still are seeing 200-215 people a day. New med students came yesterday. More to follow.

Today, Three female team members left and three new male ones came. I got to move out of the tent and back in my room. We saw 211 patients in the clinic today, bringing our total to well over 27500. We had a visit from a large NGO today who may give us vitamins and meds for children under 5 . PRAY!! I had a visit to the Haitian Dept of Public Health , now to see if they will keep their promise.

Today was a sad day. A 6 year old child who had been having seizures for 8 days came in. She was rushed to the hospital, probably had cerebral malaria, and will probably not make it.

The new team is great as always.

Everything continues to break or go wrong in Haiti as usual.

We saw 295 people at the two clinics today. Tomorrow we will see some new village people.

Talked to Tali, and she said the Guatemalan team is really nice and working hard. Today was a good day.

Internet is down because of cloud cover. So windy-tents and tarps are ripping. Interesting day , many people asking for houses and food. Real emergency - man who’s neck was sliced with a broken bottle came in on a motorcycle and was rushed out in our car , with three medical people and IV.
He made it!!

Haiti team has all arrived safely.

Well today I moved back to a tent. When we planned this group we thought one name belonged to a man but it was a woman . I gave up my new
“room with a bed”’ more like a hall with a sheet for one wall and a cot. Sad part was that tonight was the first night I had a door to the outside . Last night
My make shift door fell down 3times and being afraid of goats and chickens coming in I had to keep getting up to put my door back up. But my tent is huge . I gave my little tent away the last time. I can even sit in a chair and read.
My air mattress is new .

It is nice to be in our bunkhouse in Haiti instead of the tents. It is far from finished , plain but nice. I am definitely working on perfecting the art of living in small places.

Yesterday was a hard day. Found out a woman of 36 had 2 months to live. Our counselors worked with her and her family for quite a while.

I was happy to hear from the head counselor who has traveled to many diaster relief areas that she felt that we were the most organized and had excellent translators.

We have come a long way.

Interesting day at the clinic. Many Emergencies . Much counseling.
Alot of compassion from the team. We have seen 25000 plus people since Jan 24. Teams from Guatemala and Haiti leave tomorrow. New teams arrive Weds.

All is well in Haiti and Guatemala. The Internet is sporadic because of the rain, so I will try to write more when it works.

Right now, I’m at the airport on my way back to Haiti. Wonderful team!! Sad to leave them. I also heard there’s currently a great team in Haiti. Right now, the Guatemalan team is on their way to the hot springs.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Everyone has arrived safely in Haiti and Guatemala . Passing out shoes in Guatemala. Starting new house and sand filter.

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

At the airport going to Guatemala with 14 people. Will be interesting to see damage from the storm. The gardener at the PID house lost everything. Not sure I am up to seeing anymore damage. Another team will leave for Haiti in a couple of hours. I will meet them on Sunday.

Great news from Haiti !! We have a place to treat leprosy!! Our lady is going on Friday with Gena for an evaluation. It is a couple hour ride and the hospital fell down but Gena said they are still treating and are very nice.

My iPhone is fixed. I am home and then will be in Guatemala in two days, then back to Haiti on the 20th. Not feeling like I am ready to go back.

Monday, June 7, 2010

My iPhone was damaged in a rain storm, so I have been offline for a few days. We currently have a great new college team with amazing energy. We are continuing to see so many patients, but sadly turn too many patients away.

Today our diabetic girl came with her blood sugar at 350. We are excited that she is exercising and we’re able to be doing this without insulin. She now has an official job bagging vitamins with PID.

The guesthouse continues to be under constructions although we moved in yesterday because of the rain. People are having a hard time leaving their tents.

Our twins who are less than 4 pounds gained 6ozs over the last three days.

Anyone want to sponsor a baby?

Thursday, June 3, 2010

Worked so hard today getting ready for the new team to arrive and saying goodbye to the old team. Cleaned all the tents and mattresses. Thankful it didn’t rain tonight.

We’ve now reached 22,130 patients seen since January 24th.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

The daily rains for the last couple of weeks have been intense. Hoped to have the new house finished, but rain slowed us down. Hopefully will have the floor finished tomorrow and will move in on Friday. No more mangoes dropping on our tents, no more chickens swooping in. Can’t wait to see what this new chapter will bring!!

Well, my batteries finally died in my air mattress. It is going to be a long night…
